OTTAWA'S COREL CENTRE TO HOST COLLEGE HOCKEY SHOWCASE
First annual event will feature Clarkson vs.
Colgate
OTTAWA
- The Corel Centre announced today
the first annual College Hockey Showcase will take place at the Corel
Centre on Saturday, December 14. The Clarkson University Golden Knights
will take on the Colgate University Raiders in a non-conference exhibition
game at 2 p.m.
Both teams, regular foes in the NCAA’s Eastern
College Athletic Conference (ECAC), have significant Ottawa connections.
City of Ottawa mayor Bob Chiarelli, a Golden Knight from 1960-63, and
Ottawa Senator Todd White, a Hobey Baker Award finalist and member of the
1990 ECAC all-decade team, are both Clarkson alumni.
Colgate has four CJHL
graduates on their roster along with head coach Don Vaughan, an Almonte
native. Sophmore Dmitry Yashin, younger brother of former Ottawa Senator
Alexei Yashin, is a former member of the Kanata Valley Lasers.
Other CJHL graduates on the Raiders roster include:
Justin Spencer (Ottawa), Zac Tataryn (Cumberland), John Smyth (Ottawa),
Ryan Smyth (Hawkesbury) and Rob Brown (Brockville).
Clarkson also has four members of their current team
who played or coached in the Central Junior Hockey League (CJHL).
Assistant coach Fred Barker is a former coach of Ottawa, Nepean, Smiths
Falls and Brockville. Also on the Clarkson team are three players from the
CJHL: Dustin Trayler (Nepean), Trevor Edwards (Kanata) and Jean Desrochers
(Cornwall).
