No. 6 MICHIGAN STATE EDGES MEN'S HOCKEY
2-1 IN
THE CONSOLATION GAME OF MAVERICK STAMPEDE October 12, 2002 OMAHA, Neb.— Freshman Corey Potter of the No. 6 Michigan State men's ice hockey team scored the game winning goal at 8:36 of the second period to lift the Spartans to a 2-1 win over Colgate University in the consolation game of the Maverick Stampede Saturday night at Omaha Civic Auditorium. Potter's game winner came with the Spartan's on the power play after senior Brad D'Arco was whistled for tripping at 7:21. Potter was situated at the center of the blue line and fired a shot that went through the legs of Colgate goaltender David Cann. Michigan State tied the game 1-1 at 6:00 on a goal from senior Brian Maloney and assisted by Nenad Gajic. Maloney sent a centering pass to Gajic who one-timed it past Cann.
Colgate got on the board at 19:32 of the first period when senior Scooter
Smith sent a centering pass to junior Kyle Doyle who got his own rebound
and put it past Michigan State goaltender Matt Migliaccio.
