COLGATE MEN'S HOCKEY
OPENS SEASON FRIDAY AT
MAVERICK STAMPEDE October 7, 2002 HAMILTON, N.Y.-- The Colgate University men's ice hockey team opens its season Friday night in Omaha, Neb. as the Raiders take on the University of Nebraska-Omaha in the Maverick Stampede Tournament at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. No. 3 Denver and No. 7 Michigan State are also participating in the tournament. Colgate and host Nebraska-Omaha will face-off at 9 p.m. eastern while Denver and Michigan State play at 6 p.m. eastern. The winner of the Colgate/Nebraska-Omaha game will play the winner of the Denver/Michigan State game at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12. The loser of the Colgate/Nebraska-Omaha game will play the loser of the Denver/Michigan State game on Saturday at 6 p.m. The tournament marks the season opener for all four teams. The last time Colgate and Nebraska-Omaha met, the Mavericks defeated the Raiders 5-3 in Hamilton behind a two-goal, two-assist performance from Jeff Hoggan. Nebraska-Omaha leads the all-time series by a 2-0 margin. Colgate returns 10 forwards with only
two losses to graduation. The top eight scorers from last season are also
back with six of the eight being forwards. The Raiders also return five
defensemen, including junior assistant captain Rob Brown (Brockville,
Ont.) who was honorable mention all-ECAC last spring and senior
captain Steve Silversides (Thunder Bay, Ont.). In net, junior
David Cann (Brampton, Ont.) and sophomore Steve Silverthorn (Owen
Sound, Ont.) will battle for the starting job along with sophomore
walk-on Scott Annan (Marlboro, Mass.). |
