COLGATE MEN'S HOCKEY NAMES 2002-03 CAPTAINS September 19, 2002 HAMILTON, N.Y.-- Head coach Don Vaughan has announced the Colgate University men's ice hockey captains for the 2002-03 season. Senior defenseman Steve Silversides (Thunder Bay, Ont.), an assistant captain last season, will serve as captain while junior defenseman Rob Brown (Brockville, Ont.) and senior forward Brad D'Arco (Greenwich, Conn.) have been selected assistant captains. "We couldn't be happier with the selection of this year's captains," Vaughan said. Silversides played in 30 games last season and recorded his first collegiate goal during the Raiders opening night game with Nebraska-Omaha on October 19. His goal, nine seconds into the game, was one second off the school mark for fastest goal to start a game. He finished the season with two goals and four assists. Brown, an ECAC All-Conference Honorable Mention selection last season, finished tied for second on the team in scoring with nine goals and 12 assists in 32 games. He also won the coaches award as well as the Dan Coley "Barrell" Award as the team's best defenseman with Ben Bryce. D'Arco appeared in 31 games and recorded six goals and 10 assists, including the game winning goal in the 3-2 win over Yale on February 8. Colgate opens the season on Friday, Oct. 11 at the Maverick Stampede Tournament against Nebraska-Omaha.
