COLGATE TRAVELS TO DARTMOUTH THIS WEEKEND FOR THE QUARTERFINALS OF THE ECAC TOURNAMENT
March 13, 2003
HAMILTON, NY—In a rematch of last year’s playoff
series, the Colgate men’s hockey team
travels to Hanover, N.H. this weekend for the Quarterfinals of
the ECAC Tournament against third-seeded Dartmouth.
“We’re excited,” said
Colgate senior Brad D’Arco about the upcoming
series against the Big Green. “It’s a little chance for revenge for us.
They’re a good team, and it’s going to be a lot of hard work, but it
should be a series a lot like this one.”
Colgate (16-17-4, 9-10-3) advanced to face the Big
Green after defeating St. Lawrence in three games, 2-1. The Raiders
dropped the first game 2-1 after Saints goaltender Kevin Ackley made 38
saves and Ziga Petac scored the game winning goal. Senior P.J. Yedon
proved to be the hero in the second game as he scored his second goal of
the game in overtime to force a deciding third game. In the last game,
sophomore Dave Thomas broke a 2-2 tie at 1:57 of the third period with
his fist goal of the season.
This marks the third playoff meeting between the two schools with
Dartmouth holding the upper hand 2-1. The Big Green took two games last
season in Hanover, 5-4 in double overtime and 4-1. The first time these
two teams met in the playoffs, current assistant coach Andrew Dickson,
'93 scored the game winning goal to a 4-3 win in double overtime on
March 9, 1993.
The Big Green (17-11-1, 13-9-0 ECAC) finished the regular
season in third place and earned a first round bye. The 17 regular
season wins are the most by a Dartmouth team since 1958-59. The Big
Green won 20 games during the 1947-48 season under legendary head coach
Eddie Jeremiah.
