COLGATE CLOSES OUT REGULAR SEASON AT YALE AND PRINCETON THIS WEEKEND Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003 (315) 228-7566 HAMILTON, NY—The Colgate men's hockey team closes out the regular season this weekend when the Raiders travel to Yale and Princeton Friday and Saturday night. Both games start at 7 p.m. Fans can listen to the game through Yale's radio station. The Raiders (13-16-3, 8-10-2) are coming off their second weekend sweep of the season in three weeks after victories over Union (5-1) and Rensseleaer (4-3). Senior co-captain Scooter Smith (Calgary, Alberta) amassed five points on the weekend with two goals and an assist against Union and two goals against Rensselaer. He also scored both game winning goals, his first of the season. Currently in eighth place for the final home playoff spot in the first round, Colgate needs three points to secure a home series next weekend. The Raiders can finish from sixth to eighth with a sweep and will finish from eighth to 10th if swept. If the Raiders are tied with Vermont and St. Lawrence for eighth, Vermont wins the tiebreaker as a result of head to head results between tied teams. If the Raiders are just tied with Vermont, Colgate wins the tiebreaker. If the Raiders are just tied with St. Lawrence, the tiebreaker will be determined after this weekend's games. Smith continues to lead the team in scoring with a team-high and career-high 21 goals and 12 assists. He is averaging just over a point a game. Junior Kyle Doyle (Sarnia, Ont.) is Colgate's top assist man with 17 helpers. In goal, sophomore Steve Silverthorn (Owen Sound, Ont.) started both games against Union and Rensselaer and finished the weekend with a 2.00 goals against average and a .911 save percentage. |
