YEDON SPARKS MEN'S HOCKEY PAST DARTMOUTH, 2-1 IN OT
Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003
HAMILTON, N.Y.--Senior P.J. Yedon
scored the game winning goal at 4:36 in overtime to lift the Colgate
University men's hockey team to a 2-1 win over Dartmouth College
Saturday night at Starr Rink.
Senior Brad D'Arco fed the puck up to Yedon who skated in alone on
goaltender Nick Boucher for the game winner.
With the win, the Raiders
(11-14-3, 6-8-2 ECAC) pick up four points on the weekend and their first
weekend sweep of the year. Dartmouth falls to 12-10-1 overall and 8-8 in
the league with the loss.
"The most important part tonight," said head coach Don Vaughan. "was
that after Dartmouth scored its goal, our bench was the best its ever
been. Our older guys took charge of the bench and calmed everybody down.
After that point we outplayed them."
The Big Green knotted the game at 1-1 at 13:22 of the third period on a
power play goal. Jarrett Sampson jammed the puck between the legs of
Colgate goaltender Steve Silverthorn.
The Raiders got on the board at 2:24 of the second period as Rob Brown
fired a shot from the blueline past Boucher. Darryl McKinnon and Adam
Mitchell were credited with assists.
The two teams battled through a scoreless first period with Silverthorn
making 13 saves and Boucher stopping six shots.
Silverthorn finished with 35 saves while Boucher had 27 in a losing
effort.
The Raiders travel to Harvard and Brown on Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday,
Feb. 15. Both games start at 7 p.m.
