COLGATE FALLS TO No. 4 CORNELL 3-1 ITHACA, N.Y.— Shane Hynes recorded two assists to lead the fourth-ranked Cornell men’s hockey team to a 3-1 win over Colgate Saturday night at Lynah Rink. With the win, Cornell avenges its upset loss to the Raiders from Thursday night and improves to 17-4 overall and 12-2 in the ECAC while Colgate falls to 9-14-3 overall and 4-8-2 in conference play. Daniel Pegoraro pushed the Cornell lead to 3-0 at 16:08 in the third period when he rebounded a Hynes shot and beat Colgate goaltender Steve Silverthorn on his glove-side. Colgate’s lone goal came at 18:18 in the third
period when defenseman Joey Mormina ripped a slap-shot past Cornell
goalie David LeNeveu, cutting the Cornell lead to 3-1. Chris Abbot got Cornell on the board first at 7:58 in the opening period when he blasted a slap-shot directly over Silverthorn’s glove-side shoulder. Abbot was assisted by his brother Cam on the play. Greg Hornby was credited with a helper as well. LeNeveu stopped 12 of 13 shots, while Silverthorn made 26 saves for the Raiders.
