COLGATE HOSTS ST. LAWRENCE AND CLARKSON THIS WEEKEND

HAMILTON, N.Y.The Colgate men's hockey team plays its first home games since early December this weekend when St. Lawrence and Clarkson come to town for two key ECAC tilts. The Saints visit Starr Rink Friday night while the Golden Knights face-off against the Raiders Saturday night. Both games start at 7 p.m.

The Raiders (8-12-2, 3-6-1 ECAC) are coming off a split on the road at Rensselaer and Union last weekend. On Friday night against Rensselaer, junior goaltender David Cann played a stellar game in net as he finished with 28 saves en route to his second shutout of the season and third of his career. The win against Rensselaer marked Colgate's first ECAC road win of the season and also the first time the Raiders defeated the Engineers at Houston Field House since the 1999-2000 season.

St. Lawrence (6-13-3, 3-6-1 ECAC) won the battle of the North Country teams last weekend with a 3-2 win over Clarkson at Cheel Arena Saturday night. The win marked the first time the Saints swept the Golden Knights since the 1991-92 season. St. Lawrence is 4-2-2 in its last eight games with wins over New Hampshire, Dartmouth and Clarkson.

The Saints and the Raiders are tied for ninth in the ECAC standings with seven points. The last time these two teams met, freshman defenseman J.R. Bria scored with 2.3 seconds left to tie the game 3-3. The Raiders rallied from a 3-1 deficit to salvage a point for the weekend. Senior Scooter Smith scored two goals while Cann added 38 saves.

Saturday night's game marks the third meeting between Colgate and Clarkson (8-12-1, 5-4-1 ECAC) this season with the Golden Knights winning the first two meetings. Freshman Jeff Genovy scored at 4:17 in overtime to lift the Golden Knight's to a 2-1 overtime win on December 14 at the Corel Centre in Ottawa. Mike Walsh recorded his second shutout of the season and 10th of his career and Jay Latulippe added two goals in a 6-0 win on January 4 at Cheel.

Clarkson is unbeaten in the last seven games against the Raiders (6-0-1) dating back to the 2000-2001 season.
