COLGATE FALLS TO CLARKSON, 6-0 For Immediate Release Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003 POTSDAM, N.Y. – Senior goaltender Mike Walsh
recorded his second shutout of the year and 10th of his
career and Jay Latulippe added two goals as
the Clarkson men’s hockey team defeated Colgate 6-0 Saturday night at
Cheel Arena. Clarkson got out of the gates early with three goals in the first period from Dave Reid, Latulippe and Kevin O’Flaherty. Reid scored the first goal at 4:22 on the power play when he rebounded a Chris Bahen shot and put it past Colgate goaltender Steve Silverthorn. Kevin O’Flaherty also assisted on the goal. Latulippe struck next at 9:12 when he circled around the net and roofed it high stick side over Silverthorn. Chris Blight and Bahen assisted on the goal. O’Flaherty then scored one of his own as Jeff Genovy passed the puck up to O’Flaherty on a breakaway and he went high stick side on Silverthorn at 18:06. Dale Good also assisted on the goal. Clarkson took a 4-0 lead at 8:27 of the second period when the Golden Knights were awarded a penalty shot after Joey Mormina covered the puck in the crease. Randy Jones went top shelf on Silverthorn for the goal. The Golden Knights extended the lead 5-0 at 10:44 on Latulippe’s second goal of the night. Jones and Syroczynski assisted on the goal. Colgate goaltender David Cann replaced Silverthorn following Clarkson's fifth goal. Blight scored one of his own at 1:25 of the third
period to give Clarkson a 6-0 lead. Syroczynski and Latulippe assisted
on the goal. Head coach Don Vaughan returns to his alma mater when the Raiders visit Appleton Arena Sunday night for a 7 p.m. game with St. Lawrence. |
