CANISIUS IN A NON-CONFERENCE MATCH-UP SUNDAY The Series Sunday’s game will mark the third time these two teams have met with Colgate leading the series by a 2-0 margin. Both games have been played in Hamilton and the last time out the Raiders defeated the Golden Griffins by a 14-1 margin. Scouting Canisius Canisius is 18/85 on the power play for a .212 percentage and is 70/85 on the penalty kill for a .824 percentage. The Golden Griffins have scored 17 first period goals, 26 second period goals and 23 third period goals.
With the 3-2 win over Brown on November 16, head coach Don Vaughan needs just one win to reach the 100-win mark in ECAC play. He owns a career mark of 99-83-18 against conference opponents. What Sophomore Slump? Sophomore Kyle Doyle saw his five-game point scoring streak come to an end in the 5-2 loss to Mercyhurst on Nov. 24. However, Doyle has scored in seven of the 10 games he has played. Clutch Players Of the 11 third period goals, junior Scooter Smith, the team’s leading scorer, has scored four of them. Sophomore defenseman Rob Brown, has scored two of them, inlcuding the power play goal that won the game for the Raiders against Union. Different Strokes for Different Folks Junior Scooter Smith and freshman Dmitry Yashin both have five goals to their credit. However, each player has scored their goals at different times. Smith has four third period goals and one second period goal, while Yashin has three first period goals and two second period ones. On Cloud Nine Junior Scooter Smith, the team’s leading scorer needs nine points to hit 50 career points. Up Next Colgate will host UMass Lowell on January 4 at 7 p.m. The Riverhawks lead the series by a 7-5 margin and the series is tied 3-3 in Hamilton. |
