Scouting Brown
The Bears are coming off a 1-1 weekend where they lost to Dartmouth 6-3 before defeating Vermont 5-1. Brown opened the season with a 4-2 win over its travel partner Harvard.

Sophomore forward Adam Saunders (3-2-5) and junior defenseman Paul Esdale (1-4-5) lead the team in scoring with five points. Sophomore forward Brent Robinson and junior forward Keith Kirley each have four points on one goal and three assists.

Saunders has two power play goals to his credit and Esdale and sophomore forward Pascal Denis each have recorded game winning goals.

Senior goaltender Brian Eklund has appeared in all three games with a 2.68 goals against average and a .899 save percentage. He has allowed just eight goals.

Brown is 3/16 for a .188 percentage on the power play and is 14/17 for a .824 percentage on the penalty kill. The Bears have scored two first period goals, four second period goals and six in the final stanza.

The Last Time Out
Defenseman Rob Brown ripped a slap shot at 16:59 in the third period to lead Colgate past conference opponent Union 2-1 Saturday night at Starr Rink.

Brown’s game winning goal came on a 4-3 advantage for the Raiders as Brown took a pass from Scooter Smith at the point and beat Union goaltender Brandon Snee over his right shoulder.

The Raiders improve to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in the ECAC while the Dutchmen slip to 3-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference. Smith recorded two points in the contest and was plus two on the night for Colgate.

The two teams skated to a scoreless first period as Colgate netminder Jason Lefevre and Snee each stopped 10 shots. Lefevre stopped 22 shots on the night, while Snee tallied 27.

Smith got the Raiders on the board in the second period at 16:28 when he rebounded a Kyle Doyle shot and beat Snee glove-side.

The Dutchmen evened the score 1-1 at 4:34 in the third period when Kris Goodjohn took a Nathan Gillies pass in front of the net and beat Lefevre on glove-side.

Vaughan Eyes Another Milestone
With the 2-1 win over Union November 10, head coach Don Vaughan needs just two wins to reach the 100-win mark in ECAC play. He owns a career mark of 98-82-18 against conference opponents.

On Cloud Nine
Raider senior goaltender Jason Lefevre needs just nine saves to hit 1,000 saves in his career. He currently stands at 991 with 102 so far this season. Lefevre recorded 300 his freshman year, 136 his sophomore season and 453 his junior year.

Leaning Toward Lefevre
Entering the season, the big question was who would emerge as the Raiders No. 1 goaltender. After one weekend of ECAC play, it appears as though senior goaltender Jason Lefevre has emerged as the Raiders starter. He started both games last weekend against Rensselaer and Union, allowing three goals on the weekend.

A First Time For Everything
Freshman defenseman Joey Mormina (Montreal, Que.) recorded his first collegiate point as he assisted on Rob Brown’s game winning power play goal in the third period November 10 to give the Raiders their first ECAC win of the season.

Up Next
Colgate will travel to Harvard on Saturday, Nov. 17 for a 7 p.m. game.
