Scouting Minnesota
The Golden Gophers are coming off a weekend sweep of Bemidji State by scores of 7-2 and 7-1 respectively. Minnesota opened the season with a 7-5 win over north Dakota. The Golden Gophers are 2-0 at home and 1-0 away.

Jordan Leopold leads Minnesota with three goals and four assists for seven points. Four players trail Leopold with six points including: John Pohl (4-2-6), Jeff Taffe (4-2-6), Troy Riddle (3-3-6) and Paul Martin (1-5-6). Travis Weber holds a 1.80 goals against average, a .917 save percentage and a 2-0 record. Adam Hauser has appeared in one game with a 3.75 goals against average and a .821 save percentage.

The Last Time Out
Senior Jeff Hoggan scored two goals and added two assists to lead Nebraska-Omaha past Colgate 5-3 Saturday night at Starr Rink.

Nebraska-Omaha (3-1) went up 5-3 in the third period when senior Shane Glover redirected an Aaron Smith pass across the crease at 16:41. Colgate (0-2) came within one goal of the Mavericks 4-3 when junior Scooter Smith’s short

handed breakaway wrist shot beat Maverick sophomore goaltender Dan Ellis stick side at 14:16 in the third.

With a two-man advantage, senior Ben Bryce pulled Colgate within two, scoring on an assist from Smith at 10:27 in the final period. UNO tallied its fourth goal at 3:08 in the third period when David Brisson took a rebound from Anthony Adams’ slap shot and beat Colgate sophomore goaltender David Cann.

Hoggan scored back-to-back goals at 3:12 and 15:31 of the second period, putting the Mavericks up 3-1 heading into the second intermission.

Colgate missed a golden opportunity to tie the game at 2-2 early in the second period when freshman Dmitry Yashin’s shot hit the inside of the left post and so much like a goal that the goal judge lit the light. However, the goal was waived off by referee Alex Dell.

Yashin did, however, record his first collegiate goal at 14:25 in the first period only 23 seconds after UNO’s Dan Hacker got the Mavericks on the board with a shorthanded goal at 13:42.

Ellis recorded 23 saves for UNO, while Cann posted 18 stops for the Raiders.

Vaughan Nears Milestone
Head coach Don Vaughan needs just one more win to record 150 career victories. His career mark is currently 149-134-27 in nine seasons at the helm of the Raiders and has a 97-81-18 mark in the ECAC.

Picking Up Where He Left Off
Junior Scooter Smith, the team’s top returning scorer is paving the way for the Raiders so far this season. In two games, he has amassed two goals, including a short-handed tally and one assist for six points. Smith’s career numbers are now 14-22-35.

Ben Shows He Can
After scoring just three career goals his first three season’s as a Raider, senior assistant captain Ben Bryce has already accumulated two goals on the season. He scored one each night against Nebraska-Omaha.

Spreading the Wealth
In Friday night’s 5-4 loss to Nebraska-Omaha, 11 different players recorded one point. It was a different story on Saturday night as sophomore defenseman Rob Brown (two assists) and junior left wing Scooter Smith (one goal, one assist) each had two points a piece.

Up Next
Colgate will host Iona in a non-conference match-up on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 in Starr Rink. This will mark the first meeting between the two schools.
