HAMILTON, N.Y. - Senior Jeff Hoggan (Hope, B.C) scored two goals and added two assists to lead Nebraska-Omaha past Colgate 5-3 Saturday night at Starr Rink.

Nebraska-Omaha (3-1) went up 5-3 in the third period when senior Shane Glover (Salmo, B.C.) redirected an Aaron Smith (Madison, Wis.) pass across the crease at 16:41.  Colgate (0-2) came within one goal of the Mavericks 4-3 when junior Scooter Smith's (Calgary, Alb.) short handed breakaway wrist shot beat Maverick sophomore goaltender Dan Ellis (Orangeville, Ont.) stick side at 14:16 in the third.

With a two-man advantage, senior Ben Bryce (Bluepoint, Ont.) pulled Colgate within two, scoring on an assist from Smith at 10:27 in the final period.  UNO tallied its fourth goal at 3:08 in the third period when David Brisson (Quebec City, Que.) took a rebound from Anthony Adams' (Vancouver, B.C.) slap shot and beat Colgate sophomore goaltender David Cann (Brampton, Ont.).

Hoggan scored back-to-back goals at 3:12 and 15:31 of the second period, putting the Mavericks up 3-1 heading into the second intermission.

Colgate missed a golden opportunity to tie the game at 2-2 early in the second period when freshman Dmitry Yashin's (Kanata, Ont.) shot hit the inside of the left post and so much like a goal that the goal judge lit the light.  However, the goal was waived off by referee Alex Dell.

Yashin did, however, record his first collegiate goal at 14:25 in the first period only 23 seconds after UNO's Dan Hacker (Wasilla, Alaska) got the Mavericks on the board with a shorthanded goal at 13:42.

Ellis recorded 23 saves for UNO, while Cann posted 18 stops for the Raiders.

Colgate hits the road for a two-game series with Minnesota, Friday and Saturday, October 26 and 27, with both contests starting at 7:00 p.m. local time.
