THREE RAIDERS NAMED TO ECAC ALL-ACADEMIC SQUAD

LAKE PLACID, N.Y.--For the second consecutive year, junior defenseman Steve Silversides (Thunder Bay, Ont.), sophomore forward Paul Kelley (Grand Forks, B.C.) and senior defenseman Ben Bryce (Bluepoint, Ont.)  of the Colgate men's hockey team were named to the ECAC All-Academic team. 

To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, a students must have completed at least one academic year, have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and have competed in at least 50 percent of the team's contests during the current season.   

An International Relations major, Silversides finished the season with a career-high two goals and four assists for six points in 30 games. He recorded the first multiple point game of his career as he scored one goal and added two assists in the 3-2 overtime win over Iona January 6. He also scored his first collegiate goal in nine seconds into the season against Nebraska-Omaha October 19, which was one second off the school mark for fastest goal to start a game.

This season, Bryce played a major role on Colgate’s blueline, logging over 30 minutes a game and played in all situations for the Raiders. He was named to the All-Tournament team at the Syracuse Invitational Tournament after netting one goal and two assists in the 9-5 loss to Merrimack November23. Bryce also assisted on Bob Vandersluis’ game-tying goal in the 2-2 overtime draw with Clarkson January 26 and scored the game winning goal in the 4-1 win over Vermont January 12. He finished his career with nine goals and 18 assists for 27 points in 108 games. 

In his sophomore campaign, Kelley scored the game winning goal in the 4-3 win over St. Lawrence January 25 and also scored a goal each night in the home and home series with Cornell January 18-19. He also scored the first goal of the game in the 3-2 win over Dartmouth January 11.

Colgate finished the season with a 13-19-2 overall mark and was 10-10-2 in league play. The Raiders were eliminated from the first round of the ECAC Playoffs after falling to Dartmouth 5-4 in double overtime March 8 and losing 4-1 March 9.
