(Scoring Summary)

March 8, 2002

HANOVER, N.H.—Pete Summerfelt scored the game winning goal at 14:15 of the second overtime period to lift the Dartmouth men’s hockey team to a 5-4 double overtime win over Colgate Friday night at Thompson Arena in the first round of the ECAC playoffs.

Summerfelt fired a slap shot from the top of the right hand circle that went top shelf for the win.

Both teams played through a scoreless first overtime period with Dartmouth (13-12-5, 9-8-5 ECAC)  goaltender Darren Gastrock made eights saves and Colgate (13-18-2, 10-10-2 ECAC) netminder David Cann stopped 14 shots.

Adam Mitchell gave the Raiders a 4-3 lead at 19:15 of the third period. Dartmouth responded 30 seconds later when Lee Stempniak evened the score 4-4 on an extra attacker goal from Kent Gillings and Jamie Herrington at 19:45.

A Brad D’Arco power play goal put the Raiders up 3-2 at 10:27 before the Big Green came back 30 seconds later on a goal from Mike Maturo at the 11 minute mark.

The Big Green tied the game 2-2 on a goal from Brian Van Abel at 18:37 of the first period.

Dartmouth cut it to 2-1 at 15:05 on a Herrington goal that went over the shoulders of Cann. Stempniak and Chris Baldwin assisted on the goal.

The Raiders extended the lead to 2-0 at 12:22 of the first period as Joey Mormina’s shot went through the legs of Dartmouth goaltender Dan Yacey. Dartmouth pulled Yacey after the goal and replaced him with Gastrock.

Colgate took a 1-0 lead at 4:59 when Bob Vandersluis took a feed from Mitchell and one-timed it top shelf past Yacey.

The two teams skated through a scoreless second period with Cann making 14 saves and Gastrock stopping 11 shots.

Cann finished with a career-high 49 saves and Gastrock and Yacey combined for 53 saves with Gastrock collecting 48 of them.
