KELLEY LIFTS COLGATE PAST ST. LAWRENCE, 4-3

CANTON, N.Y.— Sophomore Paul Kelley scored the game winning goal to lift the Colgate men’s hockey team past St. Lawrence 4-3 Friday night at Appleton Arena.

Kelley took a pass from sophomore Rob Brown and one timed it top shelf for the goal and the win at 18:14 of the third period.

A St. Lawrence goal was waved off with 14 seconds left in the game when sophomore goaltender Dave Cann stopped a shot with his pads, looked back and a St. Lawrence player tipped the shot in glove side.

The Raiders (7-13, 5-6 ECAC) tied the game 3-3 at 11:27 when sophomore Kyle Doyle took a loose puck in front of the net and beat freshman goaltender Kevin Ackley high glove side. Freshmen Dave Thomas and Joey Mormina assisted on the goal. The Saints (6-14, 4-6 ECAC) went up 3-2 at 12:39 of the third period when senior Ray DiLauro took a pass from freshman Stace Page and beat Colgate sophomore goaltender Dave Cann top shelf. Junior Jim Lorentz also assisted on the goal. With the Raiders on the power play, Mormina took a shot from the point and freshman Adam Mitchell put in a rebound to tie the game 2-2 at 7:14.

The Saints went up 2-1 at 7:39 of the second period on a goal from freshman Jimmy Ball and assisted by senior Russ Bartlett and Jim Lorentz. St. Lawrence tied the game 1-1 at 6:53 on a goal by freshman Jim Hakewill from Rich Peverley and Charlie Daniels. Colgate took a 1-0 lead at 1:46 when junior P.J. Yedon took a face off and it went back to Brown whose shot went through the legs of Ackley.

The two teams played through a scoreless first period with Cann making 11 saves and Ackley stopping six shots. Cann finished with 30 saves while Ackley made 35 saves.
