CORNELL MEN'S HOCKEY SKATES
PAST COLGATE 3-2
HAMILTON, N.Y.--Sam Paolini and Doug Murray recorded two points apiece to lift Cornell over Colgate 3-2 Saturday night at Starr Rink. The Big Red pick up four points on the weekend and improve to 11-5-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the ECAC while the Raiders drop to 6-13 overall and 4-6 in the conference. Rob Brown scored a goal at 3:53 in the third period for Colgate to make it a 3-2 contest, but the Big Red defense kept the Raider attack at bay for the remaining minutes. At 2:53 Krzysztof Wieckowski deflected a shot from Kalley Hughes and beat Colgate goaltender David Cann under his stick side to extend the Big Red lead to 3-1. Cornell took the lead for good at 1:21 in the third when Ryan Vesce rebounded Murray's slap shot and beat Cann glove-side on a power-play to give the Big Red a 2-1 lead. The Raiders got on the board first after skating to a scoreless first period when Paul Kelley took a pass from Scooter Smith and beat Cornell goalie Dave LeNeveu to put Colgate ahead 1-0 at 1:23 in the first. Paolini answered, though, with a power-play goal at 11:48 in the second to tie to contest at 1-1. LeNeveu stopped 30 Colgate shots while Cann had 16 saves for the Raiders. |
