P.J. YEDON'S OVERTIME GOAL LIFTS COLGATE TO A 3-2 VICTORY OVER IONA

January 6, 2002

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.-- Junior P.J. Yedon scored at 3:41 of the overtime period to give Colgate a 3-2 win over Iona on Sunday at Skate Nation Arena.

After a scoreless first period, sophomore Kelly Bararuk converted on the power play at 1:40 of the second period.  Bararuk took a pass from Tim Krueckl off a Colgate turnover, and beat Raider sophomore goaltender David Cann stick-side.

The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Gaels until 7:02 of the third period, when Colgate earned their own power play goal.  Freshman Joey Mormina made a pass to Steve Silversides at the point, who fired a shot at Iona netminder Scott Galenza.  The puck bounced directly to Adam Mitchell, who scored past a sprawled Galenza to tie the game at one.

At 13:50 of the third, Ryan Manitowich put a Bararuk rebound over Cann's shoulder on a two-on-one breakout.

With just 3:05 remaining in regulation, Bob Vandersluis made a headman pass to Paul Kelley, who set up Silversides for the game-tying goal.  Silversides one-timed the puck low on Galenza for his second goal of the year.

At a 2-2 deadlock, Colgate and Iona headed into the first overtime for the Raiders this season.  Silversides set up Yedon to give Colgate the win with 1:19 remaining in the extra period.

The Raiders shelled Galenza with shots, who had to make 42 saves in the loss.  Cann made 18 stops to earn his first win of the season.

The Raiders will host ECAC foes Dartmouth and Vermont, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11 & 12, while Iona returns to MAAC play with a home-and-home series against Bentley.
