Scouting the River Hawks
UMass Lowell, ranked fifth in the latest USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Men’s College Hockey Poll, is coming off a 2-1 loss to No. 2 Denver in championship game of the Denver Cup Saturday. Before that loss, the River Hawks won nine consecutive games including six that were shutouts.

Goaltender Cam McCormick is 9-1 with a 0.62 goals against average and a .972 save percentage. He has only allowed six goals on the season.

Ed McCrane leads the scoring attack with eight goals and eight assists for 16 points, while Laurent Meunier checks in with five goals and nine assists for 14 points. McCrane has scored one power play goal, three shorthanded goals and two game winning goals on the year.

The River Hawks are averaging 3.4 goals per game and are holding their opponents to 1.7 goals per game. They have outscored their opponents by a 54-27 margin and have also

outshot their opponents by a 494-360 margin. Their scoring is pretty balanced as they have scored 19 first period goals, 19 second period goals and 16 third period goals. Like Colgate, they have not gone into the extra session this season.

The Last Time Out

The game against Canisius on Sunday, Dec. 30 was postponed indefinitely as a result of the snow emergency in Buffalo. Several of Canisius’ players were not able to get back to campus and the travel conditions would have made it very unlikely that the team would have been able to leave Buffalo. Colgate has been idle since Saturday, December 1 when it suffered a 5-0 loss at Yale.

One for the Record Books
While former standout Andy McDonald’s name is in the Colgate record books, he has now also etched his name in the Anaheim Mighty Ducks record books as well. Anaheim set a team record for the quickest three goals as McDonald, Denny Lambert and Marc Chouinard scored 51 seconds apart in the first period in the Ducks 4-0 victory over Phoenix recently. McDonald started the spurt on Anaheim’s first power play 12:14 into the game. He now has three goals and seven assists for 10 points on the season.

What Sophomore Slump?
Sophomore Kyle Doyle saw his five-game point scoring streak come to an end in the 5-2 loss to Mercyhurst on Nov. 24. However, Doyle has scored in seven of the 10 games he has played.

Different Strokes for Different Folks
Junior Scooter Smith and freshman Dmitry Yashin both have five goals to their credit. However, each player has scored their goals at different times. Smith has four third period goals and one second period goal, while Yashin has three first period goals and two second period ones.

Nine and Counting
Junior Scooter Smith, the team’s leading scorer needs nine points to hit 50 career points.

Up Next
Colgate will travel to Iona on Sunday for a non-conference match-up against the Gaels. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. Earlier this season, the Raiders defeated Iona by a score of 4-1 on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Starr Rink.
