ECAC RELEASES 2000-01
PRESEASON COACHES AND MEDIA POLLS
Colgate picked 6th by
coaches, 3rd by media

CENTERVILLE, Mass.
- Defending regular season and ECAC tournament champion, St.
Lawrence was selected by the Division I men's ice hockey as
the league favorite in the 2000-01 preseason coaches poll.
St. Lawrence
received 117 points, including nine of 12 first-place
votes. The Saints finished 16-3-1 last season en route
to capturing the regular season crown and defeated Rensselaer
2-0 in the ECAC tournament Championship. St. Lawrence
lost to Boston College in the semifinal round of the NCAA
Frozen Four, 4-2.
Cornell, which
finished fourth (10-9-1) last season, was selected second in
the preaseason poll and received three first-place votes for a
total of 102 points. Harvard was chosen third in the
poll after a sixth-place regular season finish (9-10-2).
Colgate was tabbed for sixth in the coaches poll after
registering its sixth 20-plus win season in
1999-2000 with a 24-9-2 finish and made its third
appearance in the NCAA Tournament advancing to
the NCAA East Regional in Albany, N.Y.
The media respected Colgate's returning corps of players by
picking the Red Raiders third in the media poll including
three first-place votes.
The Red
Raiders fell valiantly in overtime against
Michigan 4-3 in the quarterfinals of the East
Regionals. Colgate finished second in the ECAC
regular season behind St. Lawrence which advanced
to the Frozen Four of the NCAA Tournament last
year. Red Raiders head coach Don Vaughan
enters his ninth season at Colgate and nears the
150-win plateau with a 139-114-23 overall record.
