MURPHY NAMED COLGATE MEN'S ICE HOCKEY 2000-01 CAPTAIN; JOHNS AND NOLAN NAMED ASSISTANT CAPTAINS

HAMILTON, N.Y.
-- Colgate University head men's ice hockey coach Don Vaughan announced the election of senior defenseman Cory Murphy (Kanata, Ont.) as team captain and senior forwards Kevin Johns (Almonte, Ont.) and Sean Nolan (Dorchester, Ont.) as assistant captains of the 2000-01 Red Raider squad.

Murphy, a first team All-ECAC defenseman, played in all 35 games last season posting a career-best offensive output scoring 29 points last season (10-19-29). Murphy led all defensemen in scoring and plus/minus (+11).

Nolan finished with 19 goals and 18 helpers for 37 points last season. What made his efforts even more impressive is that he played most of the season with a tear in his ACL and waited until the offseason for surgery.

Nolan was the go-to man in crunch time for Colgate after leading the nation with seven game-winning goals last season. He finished tied for second on the team in plus/minus (+12) and was third on the team in multiple-point games with nine including five in his last eight games.

Johns tripled his offensive output from the 1998-99 season with 30 points last year (10-20-30). He was tied for second on the team with Nolan last year in plus/minus (+12) and registered eight multiple-point efforts including a four-point game against Union on Feb. 19.
