HAMILTON,

Sophomore forward Scooter Smith scored three goals and
registered two helpers to snap the Colgate University men's
ice hockey team's four-game losing skid with a 6-4 victory
against Brown in ECAC action Friday night.
After
falling behind 2-0 seven minutes into the contest, Colgate
erupted for six straight goals including four on the
power-play. Sean Nolan (Dorchester, Ont.) started things
off with his seventh of the season. Nolan deflected a
shot from the point by Cory Murphy (Kanata, Ont.) at 16:12 of
the first period.
Smith
followed with his first two goals of the game in the second
period on a power-play at 1:46 and an even-strength marker at
6:38. Smith recovered a blocked shot by Matt Nicholson
(London, Ont.) and stuffed it on the first goal and the second
goal came when he followed up his own shot and beat Yann Danis
(Lafontaine, Que.) to put Colgate ahead 3-2.
Bryan Long (Longmeadow, Mass.) connected on his first of the
season from Rob Brown (Brockville, Ont.) and Murphy. Long took
a shot from behind the net which bounced in off Danis' pads at
11:02.
Smith
recorded the hat-trick with a power-play goal on a rebound off
a shot from Brown in the middle of the slot at
16:24.
P.J.
Yedon (Toronto, Ont.) closed out the scoring one minute into
the third on a power-play from Smith and Murphy. Smith
took a shot from the point and Yedon picked up the rebound and
pounded it home.
Matt
Kohansky (Norfolk, Mass.) had a strong night for the Bears
scoring their second goal of the evening and added helpers on
the two other Brown markers.
Jason
Lefevre (Rome, N.Y.) evened his ECAC record to 1-1-0 with 36
saves and improved to 2-4-2 overall, while Danis stopped 26
shots in his first collegiate game for the Bears.
