MEN'S ICE HOCKEY GETS COMMITMENTS
FROM 10 RECRUITS FOR THE CLASS OF 2005
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Colgate University men's ice hockey head
coach Don Vaughan announced the commitment of 10 recruits for the
Class of 2005. The Red Raiders are excited about the large class
which is also large in stature with just one player under six feet
tall.
"It's was a huge group that we had to get this year with the
graduation of nine seniors, but I would like to give a lot of the
credit to my two assistants Stan Moore and Andrew Dickson who spent
a lot of time on the road over the past year," Vaughan said.
"We are very happy with the outlook for this class. We
increased our size on defense and the overall skill level of this
class is very strong."
Colgate which advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals in 1999-2000,
finished this season 11th in the Eastern College Athletic Conference
with an 8-13-1 league mark and a 10-20-4 overall record.

Academy finished the year 24-18-4 in the Mid-Western Prep Hockey
League. Player description: "Possesses outstanding
individual speed and agility as a rugged two-way winger."
Jaymon Hill, LW, 6-2, 200 Unity, Saskatchewan/Nipawin
Hawks (SJHL)
2000-01 Statistics: 50GP, 26-31-57, 194PIM...The Nipawin
Hawks finished third in the Dodge Conference of the Saskatchewan
Junior Hockey League with a 34-28-0 record...they are currently in
the Dodge Conference semifinals against the Kindersley Klippers.
Player description: "Can be best described as a power
forward who is strong on the puck and enjoys physical play."
Richard Hodgkinson, LD, 6-4, 220 Oakville,
Ont./Kindersley Klippers (SJHL)
2000-01 Statistics: 39GP, 3-7-10, 52PIM...The Kindersley
Klippers finished second in the Dodge Conference of the Saskatchewan
Junior Hockey League with a 42-20-0 record...they are currently in
the Dodge Conference semifinals against the Nipawin Hawks. Player
description: "A big, mobile D man that concerns himself
with his end first. At 6'5'', a good skater for a big man and one
who enjoys the physical part of the game."
Darryl McKinnon, C, 6-0, 175 Port Elgin, Ont./Owen Sound Saugeen
Greys (MWJHL)
2000-01 Statistics: 39GP, 18-37-55, 34PIM...Owen
Sound claimed the Mid-Western Junior "B" Hockey League
regular season title with a 36-11-1 mark for 73 points and are
currently in the MWJHL semifinals against the Cambridge Winter
Hawks. Player description: "Very intelligent
centre that takes pride in his play at both ends of the arena. A
true leader and team guy that will contribute to special
teams."
Adam Mitchell, RW/C, 6-1, 175 Port Elgin, Ont./Owen Sound Saugeen

Sound claimed the Mid-Western Junior "B" Hockey League
regular season title with a 36-11-1 mark for 73 points and are
currently in the MWJHL semifinals against the Cambridge Winter
Hawks. Player description: "Very skilled forward
that can play both wings and D on the powerplay. A big man that can
combine power and skill."
Joey Mormina, LD, 6-4, 220 Montreal, Que./Holderness School (NEPSAC)
Player description: "Rangy two-way defenseman who has
put up solid offensive numbers at Holderness this past year."

Sound claimed the Mid-Western Junior "B" Hockey League
regular season title with a 36-11-1 mark for 73 points and are
currently in the MWJHL semifinals against the Cambridge Winter
Hawks. Player description: "A big goaltender with
good positioning. Very agile with one thing in mind,stop the puck. A
great work ethic that will be contagious throughout the
line-up."
Justin Spencer, RD, 6-0, 180 Tweed, Ont./Ottawa Jr. Senators (CJHL)
2000-01 Statistics: 55GP, 6-16-22, 120PIM...The Jr. Senators
finished second in the Robinson Division of the Central
Junior "A" Hockey League (CJHL) and are currently
in the quarterfinals of the CJHL playoffs against the Hawkesbury
Hawks. Player description: "A steady,stay at home
defenseman who can contribute in the offensive zone."
Dave Thomas, RW/C, 5-9, 165 East Petersburg,
Pa./Deerfield Prep (NEPSAC)
2000-01 Team Info: Deerfield Prep finished 20-3-0 in the New
England Prep School Athletic Conference. Player description:
"A shifty RW/C who is a rugged
defensive player and has a knack for scoring grinding,
hard-fought goals."
Dmitry Yashin, RW, 6-1, 200 Kanata, Ont./Kanata Valley Lasers (CJHL)
2000-01 Statistics/Team Info: 32GP, 17-20-37, 32PIM...Kanata
finished second (30-18-5) in the regular-season in the Yzerman
Division of the Central Junior "A" Hockey League (CJHL)...The
Lasers are currently in the quarterfinals of the CJHL against the
Nepean Raiders...the younger brother of current Ottawa Senators
(NHL) standout center Alexei Yashin. Player description: "A
player that can play both wings. He is very skilled with pro-like
tendencies including a shot that will benefit the powerplay."
