Red Raiders snap six-game losing streak in Princeton dating back to 12/3/93 and snap four-game winless streak against Tigers

Princeton, N.J. -- Sean Nolan (Dorchester, Ont.) scored two goals included the game-winner, while Etienne Morin (Levis, Que.) scored a goal and added a helper to lead the Colgate University men's ice hockey team to a 7-3 win against Princeton in ECAC action Saturday night.

The victory snapped a six-game losing skid against Princeton in Hobey Baker Memorial Rink dating back to Colgate's last win on Dec. 3, 1993.   Colgate (8-16-4, 6-9-1 ECAC) also broke a four-game winless streak in the series against the Tigers dating back to 2/5/99 when the Red Raiders won 3-1 in Hamilton.

Nolan who scored two markers in a 7-4 loss to the Tigers on Dec. 2, 2000, recorded his 20th and 21st markers of the year and fifth and sixth of his career against Princeton.

Princeton (7-13-3, 6-8-2 ECAC) took an early 1-0 lead at 6:05 when Kirk Lamb (Cold Lake, Alb.) found Brad Parsons (Kingston, Mass.) for his 11th of the year on the power-play.  

Just over two minutes later, the Red Raiders evened the game at 1-1 on Bryan Long's  (Longmeadow, Mass.) fifth marker of the season.  Long kept the puck in the zone after a Princeton defenseman tried to clear the puck, Long cranked a slapshot which deflected of a Tiger player in front of the net and past Dave Stathos (Longueil, Que.).

Princeton regained the lead at 11:11of the first with an unassisted goal from David Schneider (Melrose Park, Ill.).  He got a loose puck in the neutral zone and skated past Colgate's Long, Schneider took a shot that deflected off Ben Bryce (Carleton Place, Ont.), but Schneider got the rebound and stuffed it past Cann.

Colgate tied the game once again at 13:20 in the first, when Sean Nolan (Dorchester, Ont.) tipped in a shot by Rob Brown from the right point (Brockville, Ont.) and Mike O'Malley (New Hartford, N.Y.).  O'Malley set things up by working hard on the boards down low and sent the puck to Brown on the point.

Colgate took its first lead of the game 34 seconds into the second period with a goal by Morin from Kevin Johns (Almonte, Ont.).  Johns blasted a shot after carrying the puck into the Princeton zone and it bounced off the back boards to Morin on the left of the goal and his shot got past Stathos.

After taking the 3-2 lead, Colgate goaltender David Cann (Brampton, Ont.) came up huge for the Red Raiders making a tremendous save robbing Psarsons on the left doorstep sliding all the way across from the right post making the pad save 4:50 into the second.  Cann finished with 22 saves to record his third straight win in his fifth consecutive start.

The Red Raiders extended their lead to 4-2 when Nolan scored the eventual game-winning goal and his second of the game from P.J Yedon (Toronto, Ont.) at 15:10 of the second.  Princeton's goalie Stathos attempted to clear the puck around the boards, but Yedon intercepted and gave it to Nolan who skated around the net and found a gap on the left post.

Colgate built a 6-2 cushion with goals just 40 seconds apart when Scooter Smith (Calgary, Alb.) scored at 3:54 after Morin made a great play stealing the puck from a Princeton player and pushed it ahead to Smith.

Then Dan Stay (North Hampton, N.H.) scored his first collegiate goal in his 60th career game after Pat Varecka (Plymouth, Minn.) worked hard behind the net getting the puck off the boards to feed Stay at the top of the right face-off circle and he slapped it past Stathos.

Bob Vandersluis (Chatham, Ont.) scored his third goal of the season to close out the Colgate scoring off a great feed from Chad MacDonald (Oshawa, Ont.) who held off two players and found Vandersluis on the back door at 11:05 in the third.
