Cambridge, Mass. --
The Harvard University men's ice hockey team used an extremely strong special teams effort highlighted by Dominic Moore's shorthanded game-winning goal to record a 4-1 victory against Colgate University in ECAC action Friday night.

Just when the momentum had shifted Colgate's way in the third period, Harvard gained the edge back when Dominic Moore scored a shorthanded goal at 9:32.  Moore stole the puck at the Harvard blueline and skated in on Cann all alone for the score.  Colgate failed to convert on the 4-on-3 power-play chance.

Harvard (10-8-1, 9-4-1 ECAC) took a 1-0 lead on their first power-play chance of the game at 12:40 in the first period.  Tyler Kolarik led the breakout taking it end-to-end, his shot was saved by Colgate goaltender David Cann, but Brett Nowak was their to stuff in the rebound.

Colgate's offense intensified in the second period holding a 19-7 shots on goal advantage.  The Red Raiders mounted their attack primarily with the help of being on the power-play for 5:36 of the second period from 8:28 to 14:04 including just under four minutes of 5-on-3 play (16 of their 19 second period shots were on the PP).

Harvard's Oliver Jonas finished with 48 saves on the night, while David Cann stopped 33 in the loss.

The initial Colgate (5-16-4, 3-9-1 ECAC) man-advantage was setup when Harvard's Tyler Kolarik was whistled for cross-checking on Cory Murphy after play had been whistled dead.  Just 26 seconds after Kolarik's penalty, the Crimson's Kenny Smith laid a hit from behind on Sean Nolan smashing him into the boards and received a five-minute major and a game disqualification.  The final Harvard penalty came at 11:21 with a boarding penalty from Chris Bala.

After at least 10 strong scoring chances in the second period, Colgate finally broke through Harvard goaltender Oliver Jonas when Scooter Smith scored his ninth marker of the season pounding in rebound off Bryan Long's shot from the right point at 1:21 of the third.

Harvard's Kolarik added two late goals at 17:19 and 19:39 with an empty-netter.

Harvard hosts Cornell on Saturday at 7 p.m., while the Red Raiders travel to Brown tomorrow, the Bears lost to Cornell Friday evening, 2-1.
