ST. LAWRENCE'S COAKLEY STOPS 43 SHOTS TO SHUTOUT COLGATE
O'Brien scores a goal and adds two assist to lead SLU offensively in 4-0 win

Hamilton, N.Y. -- Senior goaltender Sean Coakley registered 43 saves to record his first career shutout as the St. Lawrence University men's ice hockey team defeated Colgate 4-0 in ECAC action Friday night at Starr Rink.

Despite Colgate outshooting the Saints 17-4 in the first period, St. Lawrence got on the board first when Mike Gellard recorded his 14th of the season from Jack O'Brien and Erik Anderson at 14:43. Gellard received a rebound of O'Brien's shot and hit a low shot five-hole past Colgate starting goalie Jason Lefevre. Colgate outshout the Saints 43-23 on the evening, but couldn't get one past Coakley and the St. Lawrence defense.

The Saints made it 2-0 at the 5:28 mark of the second period when Russ Bartlett scored his 12th of the season from Anderson and Matt Desrosiers. Bartlett was just outside the crease on the right side of goal and tipped a shot by Anderson from the blueline to Lefevre's glove side.

Desrosiers' extended the St. Lawrence lead to 3-0 at 13:12 of the second from Jim Lorentz and O'Brien. The third goal chased Lefevre who finished the night with 12 saves in 33:12 of action. David Cann finished the game in the pipes for Colgate and allowed one goal and recorded seven saves.

O'Brien closed out the scoring with his third goal of the season at 7:22 with a breakaway shorthanded goal after he intercepted a Colgate pass at the redline and beat Cann with a fake left and slid the puck in the right side of the net.

St. Lawrence closes out the ECAC weekend at Cornell on Saturday at 7 p.m., while Colgate host No. 15-ranked Clarkson in Starr Rink on Saturday.
