SCORES TWO GOALS INCLUDING THE GAME-WINNER AS COLGATE PULLS
OUT OVERTIME VICTORY AGAINST VERMONT
Burlington, Vt. - Colgate University senior forward Sean
Nolan scored two goals including the game-winning goal 3:08
into overtime to lift the Red Raiders to a 3-2 victory against
Vermont in ECAC men’s ice hockey action Saturday night.
Colgate took a 2-0 lead on goals by Nolan and Mike O’Malley
in the first period, but the Catamounts battled back to tie
the game in the third period with markers from Bryson Busniak
and J.F. Caudron at 1:36 and 6:20, respectively.
However, Nolan recorded the game-winning goal when he
wristed a pass from Murphy in the high slot after P.J. Yedon
won the face-off back to Murphy on the right boards.
First Period Notes: Colgate came out a much different
team after its 3-2 loss Friday against Dartmouth and forced
the pressure from the start. The Red Raiders outshot Vermont
12-8 in the period and were rewarded with the first goal of
the game at 11:33. Sean Nolan (Dorchester, Ont.) put Colgate
on the board with his 14th goal of the season from Rob
Brown and Kyle Doyle. Then three minutes later Mike O’Malley
made it 2-0 Red Raiders with his sixth of the season from
Doyle and Chad MacDonald.
Second Period Notes: No scoring in the second period,
the teams played even throughout the period with shots 10-8 in
favor of Vermont.
Third Period Notes: Vermont came out strong in the period
and finally broke through Colgate goaltender Jason Lefevre’s
armor with their first goal by Bryson Busniuk at 1:36 of the
period. The Catamounts struck once again at 6:20 of the third
with a rebound goal from J.F. Caudron to tie the game 2-2.
Shots on goal 16-9 in favor of Vermont.
Overtime Notes: After killing off the final 32 seconds
of a penalty which carried over from the third period. The Red
Raiders capitalized on their third scoring chance in the
overtime session with Nolan’s second goal of the game and
first game-winner of the season at 3:08 on a feed from Cory
Murphy.

#13 Nolan redirected a shot by Brown in
front of the net just outside the right of the crease. Doyle
slid the pass to Brown at the right point.

#28 MacDonald outhustled a Vermont defender to the puck on
the left side just outside the blueline carried it in towards
goal and then shuffled his pass to Doyle and he touched it to
O’Malley who was outside the right crease backdoor and
pounded it home.

#24 Caudron picked a rebounded shot by #21 Mink which was
saved by Lefevre and found the wide-open net on the right side
of the net.
