LINEBAUGH LEADS COLGATE OVER LEHIGH 77-68

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Senior Mark Linebaugh scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Colgate to a 77-68 win over Lehigh at Cotterell Court.

Colgate rebounded from its Friday night setback against Bucknell to move into a three-way tie for third place in the Patriot League.  Lehigh came into the contest tied with Holy Cross College for first place in the league.

Also in double figures for Colgate were Howard Blue with 17 points and senior point guard Dave Hardy with 10 points and six assists.

Matt Logie led Lehigh with 18 points while Zlatko Savovic added 13 points and seven rebounds.

Colgate took an early 13-8 lead before Lehigh came back with a 12-2 run for a 20-15 advantage with 9:19 left in the opening half.   The Raiders responded with a 9-4 run to tie the contest at 24-24.

The lead see-sawed back and forth for the remainder of the first half with Colgate’s Blue scoring the final eight points for the Raiders leading to a 36-36 tie at intermission.

Colgate opened the second half with six straight points, but Lehigh put together a 13-2 run to open a five-point advantage, 49-44, with 13:47 left.  Colgate came back with its own 13-3 run to move ahead for good 57-49.

Lehigh moved to within one point, 63-62, with 3:40 left but Linebaugh hit a 3-pointer and Hardy made a driving lay up to give Colgate a six-point cushion with 1:51 remaining.

Colgate shot 45 percent from the field including eight 3-pointers, while Lehigh made 42 percent of its shots.  The Raiders edged Lehigh on the boards, 37-36.
