DREXEL ROLLS TO A 75-54 WIN OVER COLGATE PHILADELPHIA, PA – Robert Battle scored 16 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked a season-high seven shots to lead Drexel University to a 75-54 win over Colgate Monday night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons (4-4) snapped a three-game losing streak as they opened their home season after seven straight road games. Colgate (3-6) lost its third straight game and remains winless on the road this season in four outings. The Dragons held a one-point lead at halftime, 36-35, before opening the second half with an 11-2 run to take control of the contest. With Drexel leading, 47-37, Colgate cut the double-digit lead in half on Keith Williams’ basket and Martin Marek’s 3-point play. Drexel answered the challenge with a 15-3 run to open a 62-45 advantage. They led by as many as 25 points in the closing minutes. In the first half, Drexel had an 8-3 lead before Colgate rallied to tie the contest 11-11. Later in the opening half, the Raiders led 21-18 with 11:26 remaining before the Dragons put together a 12-3 run for a six-point lead. Colgate came back to tie the contest 31-31 on Alvin Reed’s 3-pointer, before Drexel moved in front at intermission. Behind Battle in the scoring column for Drexel was Eric Schmieder with 14 points, while Phil Goss scored 11 and Tim Whitworth 10. Schmieder added a career-high 11 assists. Junior Mark Linebaugh led all Colgate scorers with 13 points, while hitting on 3-of-6 attempts from behind the arc. Dave Hardy added 12 points and Howard Blue had nine points before fouling out of the contest. Linebaugh was the leading Colgate rebounder with seven.
