Colgate Plays Host To Lehigh; Raiders Looking To Atone For Earlier Loss

(Complete Release in PDF Format)

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Colgate University basketball team (12-9 overall, 3-5 Patriot League) will be looking to atone for an earlier loss against Lehigh (4-17, 1-7), when the Raiders host the Mountain Hawks Wednesday night at Cotterell Court.  Tip-off is 7:45 p.m.

The Raiders had a three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday against league leader American University, while Lehigh has dropped its last six games since defeating Colgate, 79-74, on Jan. 12.

Colgate needs to pick up the pace on its home court, where they have dropped three of four league games, for any chance of a top seed in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament, March 2-3, at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

This is the 56th meeting between Colgate and Lehigh with the Raiders leading the overall series, 36-19.  Lehigh has won the last two encounters including a decision in the first meeting this season.  Colgate, however, has won 10 straight against the Mountain Hawks at Cotterell Court.

Sophomore Mark Linebaugh has been Colgate’s leading scorer in the last three outings.  He pounded home 65 points in three games last week for the highest scoring average in the league.  He connected on 22-of-35 from the field (62.9%).  Linebaugh tallied 21 points against Binghamton, came back with 27 against Army, and scored 17 at American.

Senior Pat Campolieta, the first player in school history to rank in the Top 10 in career scoring (1,527), rebounding (645), assists (226) and steals (176), continues to lead Colgate in scoring and rebounding.  He is averaging 15.4 points per game and 7.1 caroms per outing, which is good for third place in Patriot League scoring and second in rebounding.

Campolieta is currently fifth in career scoring and eighth in rebounding for the Raiders.

Linebaugh, the only Colgate player to post back-to-back 20-plus scoring games this season, is second in scoring with 13.1 points per game, while Howard Blue is third with 11.0 points per game.  Tim Sullivan, who has missed the last two games with a sprained ankle, is averaging 9.3 ppg and Dave Hardy 8.3 ppg.

Matt Logie is Lehigh’s leading scorer with 14.4 points per game followed closely by Scott Taylor with 10.2.  They are followed in the scoring column by Alex Jensen (9.5).  The Mountain Hawks’ leading rebounder is Taylor with 5.6 caroms per outing.
