Colgate Snaps A Three-Game
Losing Streak With A 46-42 Upset Win Over Holy Cross
WORCESTER, MA - Senior forward Pat Campolieta had his third double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Colgate to a 46-42 upset win over Holy Cross College Wednesday night at the Hart Center. Colgate (9-6, PL 1-2) snapped a three-game losing with the win over the preseason Patriot League favorite Crusaders. Holy Cross (7-11, PL 1-2) dropped only its second home game at the Hart Center in its last 13 outings. Other top scorers for Colgate were freshman Keith Williams with a career-high eight points and Howard Blue with eight points and five rebounds before fouling out late in the game. Mark Linebaugh added seven points and Tim Sullivan had six points. Pat Whearty led the Crusaders with 12 points and Ryan Serravalle added 10. Holy Cross took an early 17-9 lead over the Raiders, before Colgate scored nine straight points to move in front 18-17. Williams scored the last seven points in the run for the Raiders. Colgate’s lead was short-lived as the Crusaders moved in front at halftime, 24-20. The Raiders opened the second half with nine straight points for a 29-24 advantage. Then Tim Szatko scored and Serravalle converted a 3-pointer for Holy Cross to make it 29-29 with 12 minutes to go. Blue scored back-to-back baskets inside igniting a 10-2 run. A Campolieta 3-point goal capped the surge, giving Colgate a 39-31 lead with eight minutes left. They led by as many as eight points, 41-33, with 6:37 left. The closest the Crusaders came was 44-42 with 2:18 remaining. Colgate iced the contest on a free throw by Campolieta with nine seconds left. GAME NOTES: Williams scored seven of his points in the first half … Colgate’s 20 first half points was the season-low … and its 46 total points was a season-low … Holy Cross had won two straight over the Raiders … Colgate shot only 39 percent from the field while Holy Cross made only 29 percent, including 2-of-17 from 3-point range ... Campolieta, who was playing in his 100th game for the Raiders, moved into sole possession of second place on Colgate's all-time steal list with 169 ... He also hit the 600 rebound mark in his career and moved into 10th place in career assists with 207. |
