American Defeats Colgate
76-59 In Patriot League Opener
HAMILTON, N.Y. – Glenn Stokes led six American University players in double figures with 15 points, as the Eagles defeated Colgate, 76-59, in the Patriot League opener for both teams. American (7-7, 1-0), playing its first game in the Patriot League after 16 seasons in the Colonial Athletic Association snapped Colgate’s (8-5, 0-1) five-game homecourt winning streak. Also in double figures for the Eagles were Steven Miles and Vladimir Buscaglia with 12 apiece, and Keith Gray, Nick Boyd and Patrick Doctor with 10 points each. Junior Dave Hardy led Colgate with 15 points, while Pat Campolieta netted 12 points and Howard Blue 10. Colgate fell behind by six points early in the contest, before coming back to tie the game at 24 with 4:04 remaining on Tim Sullivan’s three-pointer. The Eagles answered with five straight points by Buscaglia and never looked back as they held a 35-31 halftime lead. American scored the first eight points of the second half and lead by as many as 19 in the final seconds. The Eagles dominated the rebounding 40-21 paced by Stokes with seven and Buscaglia with six. Hardy, Sullivan and Blue had three apiece for the Raiders. |
