Notre Dame Defeats Colgate 92-61 At South Bend

Boxscore

SOUTH BEND, IN – Freshman guard Chris Thomas scored a career-high 28 points to lead Notre Dame (10-2) to a 92-61 win over Colgate at the Joyce Center Sunday afternoon.

Thomas made 6-of-8 3-pointers as the Irish connected on 11-of-18 from behind the arc.  Also in double figures for Notre Dame were Ryan Humphrey with 21 points followed by Matt Carroll with 14 and David Graves with 13.

The Raiders (7-3), who saw their five-game winning streak come to an end, were paced by Tim Sullivan with 17 points – all in the first half, while Mark Linebaugh netted 16.

Colgate was ice-cold over the first 10 minutes of the contest falling behind 19-4 with 11:51 left.  The Raiders’ first basket didn’t come until the 11:39 mark on Howard Blue’s layup.

Blue’s layup started an 11-5 run for the Raiders as they cut the Irish lead to 10 points, 25-15.  Notre Dame scored the next four points, but Sullivan answered back with eight straight points as Colgate moved to within six, 29-23, with 4:21 remaining.

The Raiders were trailing by four points in the final minute of the first half, before Graves’ jumper gave the Irish a six-point lead at halftime, 37-31.

Just like the first half, the Raiders couldn’t buy a basket as Notre Dame tallied the first 10 points to open a 47-31 advantage.  Colgate would get it back to a 11-point deficit but that would be as close as they came to the Irish.

Blue finished with four points and eight rebounds for the Raiders, while Josh Humphrey tallied five points and grabbed a career-high six rebounds.  Martin Marek scored seven points, and Sullivan finished with six rebounds.

GAME NOTES:  Marek picked up two fouls in the first two minutes of the game putting him on the bench until the second half … Senior guard Devin Tuohey didn’t make the trip to South Bend.  He was sick and stayed in Hamilton … Freshman guard Keith Williams has made two 3-pointers in his rookie season - one against Syracuse and one against Notre Dame.
