COLGATE ROLLS TO A 68-55
ROAD WIN OVER CORNELL
December 1, 2001 ITHACA, N.Y. – Pat Campolieta scored 17 points and Howard Blue came off the bench to score 15 to lead Colgate to a 68-55 win over Cornell Saturday night at Newman Arena. It was the fifth straight year that the visiting team has won in this rivalry between these two Upstate New York schools. The Raiders have won nine of the last 11 games played in the series. Also in double figures for the Raiders (3-2) were Martin Marek with a season-high 16 points and Tim Sullivan with 10. Ka’Ron Barnes paced Cornell (0-5) with 18 points. The Big Red held an early 7-2 lead before Colgate rallied to tie the contest at 11 on Sullivan’s 3-pointer. Sullivan’s 3-pointer began a nine-point spurt for the Raiders with Blue adding the final six. Colgate's biggest lead in the first half came with two minutes remaining as the Raiders led 29-20. Cornell cut the advantage to four at halftime, 30-26. In the second half, the Raiders had a one-point lead, 32-31, before going on a nine-point run for a 41-31 lead with 14:53 left. Sullivan keyed the run with five points. Colgate extended its lead to 15 points twice before the final buzzer, the last time with 26 seconds remaining. Campolieta paced Colgate in rebounding with eight, while Marek grabbed four and Dave Hardy had four. The Raiders are back in action on Monday night when they play host to Yale at Cotterell Court. Tip-off is 7 p.m. GAME NOTE -- Campolieta moved into 10th place on Colgate's all-time scoring list with 1,279 points.
