NORTHERN ARIZONA BOUNCES COLGATE RED RAIDERS 89-76

FLAGSTAFF, AZ. – Corey Schwab scored a game-high 24 points to lead Northern Arizona University to an 89-76 win over Colgate Saturday night at the Walkup Skydome.

NAU is 2-1 while Colgate is 1-2.

Other players in double figures for the Lumberjacks were Rod Hutchings with 12 points, Ryan McDade with 11 and Casey Grundman with 10. NAU was eight-of-16 from 3-point range with Hutchings leading the way with four markers.

Colgate was paced by freshman Howard Blue and junior forward Pat Campolieta with 19 points each.  Blue scored 13 of his career-high 19 points in the second half, while Campolieta moved into 27th place on Colgate's all-time scoring list with 849 career points.  He also moved into 10th place in career steals with 106.

The Red Raiders held a 26-25 lead with 6:56 remaining in the first half before going ice cold over the next 12 minutes. During that stretch, Colgate managed only two field goals as the Red Raiders fell behind 59-40 with 14:34 left in the game.

Northern Arizona led 44-37 at halftime before starting the second half with a 15-3 run. They led by as many as 27 points in the final half before the Red Raiders made a late run behind the scoring of Blue.

Martin Marek came off the bench to score a career-high nine points for the Red Raiders while Campolieta and Marques Green were the club's top rebounders with four apiece. NAU held a 33-23 edge on the boards.

The Red Raiders are back in action on Tuesday (Nov. 28) when they meet Syracuse at the Carrier Dome to conclude their three-game road trip. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.

RED RAIDER NOTEBOOK:  Senior center Rob Akers saw his first action of the season.  He broke the index finger on his shooting hand in preseason.  He played 12 minutes scoring two points ... Jim Detmer and Casey Langel returned to the lineup after missing the Arizona State game with injuries ... Matt Shirley, who was hurt in the preseason, saw his first varsity action playing six minutes with one point.
