COLGATE SEEDED THIRD IN PATRIOT LEAGUE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Red Raiders To Face Sixth-Seeded Bucknell In Quarterfinal Round

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Colgate University men’s basketball team (13-14 overall, 6-6 Patriot League) will be seeded third in the 2001 Patriot League Tournament which begins Saturday, March 3 with quarterfinal round action at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

The Red Raiders will meet sixth-seeded Bucknell (13-14, 4-8) in the quarterfinals at 1:30 p.m. at Alumni Hall. The other quarterfinal matchups are #2 Navy (17-11, 9-3) against #5 Army (8-18, 3-9) at 11:00 a.m. and #4 Lehigh (12-15, 6-6) vs. #5 Lafayette (12-15, 4-8) at 4:00 p.m. Holy Cross (20-7, 10-2), the regular season champion, gets a first round bye.

The Colgate-Bucknell winner plays the Navy-Army winner in the semifinal round on Sunday, March 4 at 1:30 p.m. The Patriot League championship game will be played on Friday, March 9 at the home site of the highest remaining seed. The game will be televised on ESPN at 4:30 p.m.

Colgate has earned its highest seed since the 1996-97 campaign, when they were seeded third. The last three seasons, the Red Raiders were seeded fourth. Colgate has reached the semifinal round of the Patriot League Tournament a league record eight straight times.
