HOLY CROSS DEFEATS COLGATE 74-65 TO MAINTAIN A SHARE OF FIRST PLACE IN THE PATRIOT LEAGUE

                HAMILTON, N.Y. – Sophomore Tim Szatko scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Holy Cross to a 74-65 win over Colgate Saturday at Cotterell Court.

                Holy Cross (16-5, 6-1) maintains a share of first place in the Patriot League with its sweep of Colgate in their home-and-home series.  Colgate falls to 10-11 overall and 4-3 in the league.

                Other Holy Cross players in double figures were Patrick Whearty with 13, Jared Curry 11 and Juan Peques 10.  Colgate was paced by Martin Marek with 16 and Pat Campolieta with 15.

                The Crusaders used their superior height advantage to outrebound the Red Raiders, 36-31, led by Whearty with nine.

                With Colgate leading 9-8 early in the first half the Crusaders put together a six-point run for a 14-9 advantage.  Szatko with four points led the surge.  Holy Cross continued to lead throughout the first half leading 32-30 at halftime.

                In the second half, Colgate came back to tie the contest 39-39 with 16:12 remaining on Bill Kern’s 3-pointer.  Holy Cross, however, went right back into the lead on Szatko’s jumper and never trailed the remainder of the contest while leading by as many as 17 points with 6:19 left.
