NAVY PULLS AWAY LATE FOR AN 81-70 WIN OVER COLGATE

            ANNAPOLIS, MD.  Jehiel Lewis scored a team-high 15 points off the bench to lead six Navy players in double figures as the Midshipmen defeated Colgate, 81-70, in a Patriot League game Saturday at Alumni Hall.

            Navy (12-7, 4-1) moves into a first place tie with Holy Cross in the Patriot League standings, while Colgate (9-10, 3-2) has sole possession of third place.  Navy has defeated Colgate nine straight times.

            Freshman guard Mark Linebaugh with a career-high 23 points, 10 points better than his previous best, paced Colgate.  Tim Sullivan, Pat Campolieta and Dave Hardy added 12 apiece for the Red Raiders, who played without their second leading scorer Howard Blue.  Blue was injured in Colgate’s previous game against Bucknell.

            Campolieta with his 12 points moved into 18th place on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,086 points.

            Other Navy players in double figures were Chris Williams 14, Robert Reeder 12, Kyle Barker 12, Demond Shepard 10 and John Williams 10.

            Navy opened the game with a 7-0 run before Colgate came back to take a 14-12 lead on Linebaugh’s 3-point play with 12:33 remaining in the first half.  The lead seesawed back-and-forth before the Red Raiders took their largest lead, 34-31, with 1:15 left.  Navy answered right back with the final four points of the half for a 35-34 lead entering intermission.

            In the second half, Colgate held a slim 41-39 lead before Navy put together a nine-point run for a 48-41 advantage.  The Red Raiders immediately came back with a 12-2 run sparked by seven points from Sullivan for a 53-50 lead. With Colgate leading 55-54, Navy put the game away with a 16-4 spurt paced by Robert Reeder with six points.  The Mids made nine of their final 11 points from the charity stripe.
