CITADEL DEFEATS COLGATE 86-55 IN FIRST ROUND OF CAPITAL CITY CLASSIC

                TALLAHASSEE, FL. – Travis Cantrell scored a game-high 17 points to lead The Citadel to an 86-55 win over Colgate in the opening round of the Capital City Classic at the Jake Gaither Gym.

                Colgate (6-5) will play Florida A&M in the consolation game on Saturday at 7:00 p.m., while The Citadel (6-4) advances to the championship game against Morehead State.  The Red Raiders had their three-game winning streak stopped in its first meeting ever against the Bulldogs.

                Other Citadel players in double figures were Gregg Jones with 16, Michael Joseph with 13 and Cliff Washburn with 13.  Colgate was paced by freshman Mark Linebaugh, who equaled his career-high with 13 points – all in the first half.  Pat Campolieta, who had a streak of 14 straight games in double figures stopped, tallied seven points along with Dave Hardy and Tim Sullivan. Campolieta moved into 21st place on Colgate’s all-time scoring list with 975 points.

                With the score tied 13-13 in the first half, Citadel went on a 14-3 run to open up an 11-point advantage with 7:58 remaining.  Colgate cut the lead down to five points, 36-31, with 2:10 left, but the Bulldogs went back up by 11 points at the half, 44-33.

                In the second half, the closest Colgate would come was 10 points as Citadel lead by as many as 36 points.
