PRINCETON SNAPS COLGATE'S THREE-GAME WIN STREAK WITH A 14-10 WIN AT PRINCETON STADIUM

(Game Statistics)

PRINCETON, N.J. – Quarterback Dave Splithoff connected on 11-of-21 passes for 229 yards and two touchdowns to lead Princeton (3-1) to a 14-10 non-conference win over Colgate at Princeton Stadium.  Colgate (3-3) had a three-game win streak stopped and lost to an Ivy League team for the first time since the 1997 season.  They had won 13 straight against the Ivies.

The Tigers won the game with 2:46 remaining in the contest when Splithoff connected on a 73-yard touchdown pass to B.J Szymanski on the second play from scrimmage after Colgate backed Princeton up to its own 10-yard line.

Princeton opened the scoring on the first play of the game, when Splithoff found Andy Bryant wide open down the middle for a 62-yard touchdown pass.  The Raider defense had a complete breakdown on the play with nobody within 10 yards of Bryant.  Derek Javarone added the extra point.

Colgate put its first points on the board with 11:08 remaining in the opening quarter, when Lane Schwarzberg kicked a 33-yard field goal to cap 56-yard drive in five plays.  The drive featured a 49-yard pass from Tom McCune to Jamal Lamb that gave the Raiders a first down at the Princeton 23.

Colgate had an excellent chance to take the lead late in the first quarter, but Princeton’s defense stopped the Raiders on fourth-and-two at the Princeton 8.  McCune’s pass attempt was batted down.

Colgate took its first lead with 1:47 left in the third quarter, when McCune connected with J.B. Gerald on a 74-yard pass play for a 10-7 lead.  Schwarzberg added the extra point.

Princeton had an opportunity to tie the game early in the fourth quarter but Javarone missed a 23-yard field goal attempt wide left after Princeton had first-and-goal at the nine-yard line.

Colgate had one final opportunity to pull the game out, but Jay McCareins intercepted McCune at the Princeton nine-yard line with 52 seconds left on a fourth-and-15 play.

McCune was 13-of-33 for 273 yards and one touchdown.  Ray LaMonica led the Colgate ground attack with eight carries for 46 yards and Luke Graham grabbed four passes for 52 yards and Lamb had three receptions for 106 yards.
