SCHWARZBERG BOOTS COLGATE TO 13-10 OVERTIME WIN AGAINST BUCKNELL

(Game Statistics)

LEWISBURG, PA – Sophomore Lane Schwarzberg booted a 23-yard field goal in the first overtime period to lift Colgate to a 13-10 win over Bucknell Saturday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.

The Raiders (3-2 overall, 1-1 Patriot League) won their third straight game, while Bucknell (2-3, 0-1) had a two-game win streak stopped.

Schwarzberg, who missed a 38-yard field goal attempt on the final play of the game when Bucknell's Joe Massey tipped the ball at the line of scrimmage, beat the Bison for the second straight season.  Last year, he kicked a 33-yarder with 2:53 remaining to give Colgate a 15-13 win.

Colgate trailed 10-7 in the final quarter before Schwarzberg nailed a 20-yard field goal to tie the contest with 9:08 remaining, capping a 48-yard drive in seven plays.

Colgate opened the scoring on its third possession of the first quarter driving 80 yards in eight plays for a 7-0 lead.  The Raiders capped the drive on a 25-yard pass play from quarterback Tom McCune to sophomore wide receiver Luke Graham on a crossing pattern.  Schwarzberg added the extra point.

McCune completed 22-of-40 passes for 271 yards and one TD.  It was the 12th time in his career he has thrown for over 200 yards in a game.  With his effort he became the sixth player in school history to pass for over 4,000 yards in a career as he increased his total to 4,267 yards.

Bucknell scored the only points of the second quarter on Chris Lundberg’s 22-yard field goal with 10:44 remaining in the half.  The Bison moved 74 yards in 14 plays to set up the field goal.

Bucknell took a 10-3 lead in the third quarter on a 23-yard pass from Todd Wenrich to Jim Horan.

Colgate’s offense rolled to 368 yards of total offense, while the defense yielded 300 with 204 coming through the air.

GAME NOTES – Colgate has won three straight overtime games and hasn’t lost since Bucknell defeated the Raiders 28-27 in 1996 … Graham finished with six catches for 94 yards and tight end John Frieser had four grabs for 54 yards ... junior linebacker Tem Lukabu led the defense with 13 tackles, while cornerback Maurice Robertson had his fifth career interception.
