Game Statistics

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Quarterback Tom McCune threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns as Colgate defeated Towson, 37-5, in a Patriot League game at Andy Kerr Stadium.

The Raiders (4-2, 2-0) have won four straight games after opening the season with losses against Villanova and Maine.  It was Colgate's sixth straight win over Towson.

McCune, who is 9-2 as a starter, connected on 19-of-28 passes, and scored on a 21-yard touchdown run.

Colgate's defense dominated, yielding a mere negative four yards rushing and only 175 yards of total offense, while forcing four turnovers in the game.

It was the second time in the six-game series against Towson that Colgate has held the Tigers to negative rushing yardage.  In the 1999 game, the Raiders limited Towson to minus 38 yards.

Colgate's Joe Parker had a big day with eight receptions for 103 yards.  Parker moved into sixth place in career catches with 104 and seventh place in career yardage with 1,491 yards.

Colgate took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when running back Nate Thomas scored from a yard out on the opening drive of the game. Towson (2-5, 1-4) put its first points on the board when a snap sailed over the head of punter Brendon Biddle through the back of the end zone for the safety with 9:54 left in the half..

Ed Kulic's career-long 48-yard field goal brought the Tigers to within two points with 7:15 left in the second quarter, but Colgate rattled off the game's final 30 points.  McCune's 21-yard touchdown run gave the Raiders a 14-5 halftime lead.

Colgate recorded a safety with 6:39 remaining in the third quarter when Towson quarterback Jay Amer kicked the ball through the back of his own end zone after a shotgun snap flew over his head toward the end zone.

Safety Ameer Riley picked off an Amer pass and took it 32 yards with 1:58 remaining in the third quarter to extend the Colgate lead to 25-5.

McCune finished off the scoring with two touchdown passes to sophomore tight end John Frieser of 11 and 61 yards.  Frieser, who finished with four catches for 88 yards, has three TD receptions this season.

The Raiders rolled to 445 yards of total offense - 198 rushing and 247 passing.  Thomas led the ground attack with 70 yards on 16 carries, while Justin Polk had a career-high 38 yards on six carries.

Colgate's defense came up with seven quarterback sacks paced by Chris Rowland and Mike Latek credited with two each.  Tem Lukabu made eight tackles and Ron Hampton had seven for the Raiders, while Max Wynn came up with his first interception of the season.
