Oct. 6, 2001

Game Statistics

PRINCETON, N.J. - Sophomore tailback Jamaal Branch rushed for a career-high 150 yards and one touchdown and quarterback Tom McCune passed for 265 yards and three touchdowns to lead Colgate to a 35-10 win over Princeton in a non-conference game at Princeton Stadium.

It was Colgate’s 11th straight win over an Ivy League opponent and first road win over Princeton (1-2) since the 1987 campaign.

Colgate (3-2) pounded the Tigers for 506 yards of total offense, while a suffocating defense limited Princeton to 175 yards.

The Raiders also received a strong performance from senior wide receiver Joe Parker, who caught six passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns.  Parker moved into sixth place in career receiving with 96 catches for 1,388 yards and 14 TD’s.

“It was the best game we’ve played this year,” said Colgate coach Dick Biddle.  “We had the total package.”

Princeton opened the scoring with 4:56 remaining in the first quarter after Blake Perry intercepted a pass and ran it back to the Colgate 31-yard line.  The Tigers appeared ready to score when they had a first-and-goal at the two-yard line following a pass interference call.

However, three straight defensive plays by the Raiders pushed Princeton back to the 16-yard line, where Taylor Northrop kicked his 12th straight field goal from 33 yards for a 3-0 lead.

Two possessions later, Colgate began a drive on its own 21-yard line.  The Raiders moved to the Princeton 22-yard line where they face fourth-and-one.  McCune hit sophomore tight end John Frieser for the first down, and two plays later, Matt Kobelski scored from three yards out for a 7-3 lead.

Colgate’s offense would score on its next three possessions for a 28-3 lead in the third period.  The Raiders’ second TD came on a 60-yard touchdown pass from McCune to Parker on the first play from scrimmage with 8:26 remaining in the first half.

Colgate closed out its first half scoring with 10 seconds left in the second quarter, when Kobelski caught a one-yard pass from McCune capping an 89-yard drive in 12 plays.

On the first series of the third quarter, Colgate marched 80 yards in 10 plays for a 28-3 advantage.  McCune finished off the drive with his third TD of the game, hitting Parker on a 25-yard strike for the TD.  Parker made a tough catch at the five-yard line before finding the end zone with his 14th career TD reception.

Princeton’s lone TD came with 1:13 left in the third period, when Cam Atkinson scrambled 16 yards for the score ending a 70-yard drive in 10 plays.

The Raiders concluded their scoring with 1:25 remaining in the contest.  Branch finished off his second career 100-yard performance with a 10-yard run for the touchdown.

Colgate wide receiver Joe Parker caught eight passes for 103 yards to move into sixth place in career catches with 104 and seventh place in career yardage with 1,491.

Linebacker Chris Rowland and defensive tackle Mike Latek paced the Colgate defense with two sacks apiece.
