RAIDERS SLATED TO FINISH SEVENTH
IN LEAGUE PRESEASON POLL HAMILTON, N.Y. - New Patriot League member American was the preseason favorite according to a poll of league head coaches and sports information directors. American, formerly of the Colonial Athletic Association, earned 81 votes, as well as seven first-place votes. Following closely is Fairfield with 77 points and three first-place votes. The 2000 league champion, Holy Cross, which finished with a perfect 6-0 in conference play, picked up 76 points and three first-place votes to come in third. Lafayette and Bucknell also garnered first-place consideration, with the Leopards taking 69 points and the Bison, 66. The Raiders narrowly missed a sixth-place ranking, as Lehigh earned 31 points versus Colgate's 30. Rounding out the poll is Ursinus with 18 points. Colgate will play a preseason scrimmage against St. Lawrence on Sunday, August 26 at Tyler's Field in preparation for their first regular season contest against Siena on Wednesday, August 29. 2001
