New York, N.Y. - After dropping the first game of the season, the Colgate women's lacrosse team got back on track for their second contest with a 8-7 victory over Columbia.

Senior Liz Brown (West Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Jane Manning (Minnetonka, Minn.)  led the Red Raider offense with three goals each.  Junior attacker Lauren Moll (Berwyn, Pa.) chipped in another goal and two helpers.  Sophomore Heather Smith (Darien, Conn.) scored her third goal of the weekend after she had tallied two against Hofstra.

Smith's goal got the game scoring started at 4:24 of the first on a free position shot attempt.  Just 21 seconds later, Manning made it 2-0 Colgate off a pass from Brown.

Columbia's Arianna Faucetta scored at 5:35, but then the Red Raiders scored four straight goals before a goal by Ellen Lowrey for the Lions made the half-time score 6-2 in favor of the visitors.

The second half opened on a completely different game, as Columbia launched a five-goal comeback within 11 minutes beginning 1:05 into the half.  The Lions had the victory in their sights, as they held the 7-6 lead for eight minutes.  However, Colgate's Brown and Manning spoiled Columbia's hopes of a win with back-to-back goals at 20:53 and 21:39 to finish the game.

Red Raider junior netminder Jane Murray (Stony Brook, N.Y.) preserved the victory with 10 saves, while Columbia's Jessica Valadez stopped 13 Colgate shots in the loss.

Colgate takes to the road on Wednesday for a contest against Ohio University at 4 pm.
