RED RAIDERS STOMP LA SALLE 21-4

Hamilton, N.Y. - Nine different Red Raiders scored to snap Colgate's three game losing streak and beat non-conference rival La Salle 21-4. The Red Raiders improve to 2-3, while the Explorers drop to 1-6 overall.

La Salle standout Jami Wilus scored her first goal at 27:14 into the first half, to give the Explorers a short lead. But Colgate would pour on the offense and score the next three goals to make it 3-1 with 23:25 left in the half. Senior tri-captain Anne Currier scored her first, while fellow tri-captain Kate Manzella netted her first two goals of the game.

The Explorers would get another goal from Wilus before the Red Raiders went on an 11-goal scoring run. Freshman Shawn Mattson captured her first two career goals in the half, while Kristin Bailey and Nikki Sheridan each tallied their first goal of the season with less than 15 minutes to go before intermission. Wilus would tally another and get an assist on teammate Christine McDonald's goal at 1:26 in the first. Colgate went into halftime up 15-4.

The Red Raider defense proved too much for the Explorers in the second half, keeping La Salle scoreless. Colgate goaltender Jane Murray made four of her nine saves in the second half, while defender Meghan McLaughlin picked up four ground balls and caused three turnovers by the Explorers.

Liz Brown and Lauren Moll would go on to score for the Red Raiders in the second, and Caitlin Houck netted her first two collegiate goals as Colgate would easily run time down for the win.

The Red Raiders will travel to Cornell on Wednesday.
