Raiders Drop a 10-5 Decision to

American University


March 8, 2003

Washington, D.C. - Gina Riitano scored 4 goals to push the Eagles past Colgate 10-5 Saturday at Reeves Field in Washington D.C.

Riitano scored the first goal just 2:53 into the game, but Colgate quickly responded with Caitlin Houck netting two goals. The Raiders only led for 1:20 before American scored five more goals during the first half, making the score 6-2.

The Eagles scored three more goals at the beginning of the second, securing their lead. Houck, Becky Ortolano, and Katie McVeigh each netted a goal during the second for the Raiders. Ortolano also added a helper.

Colgate's Sue Bielamowicz posted nine saves in the loss, while American's Kathleen Finnegan turned back 14 Raider shots in the winning effort. Colgate is now 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the Patriot League and American is 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the league.

Colgate returns to action Sunday, March 9 at Towson University in Towson, Maryland.
