Villanova Edges Raiders With Late
Goal, 11-10 VILLANOVA, Pa. - Meghan Carolan netted her third goal of the game with 5:09 remaining to lift Villanova to a hard-fought 11-10 victory over Colgate, Saturday in Patriot League women's lacrosse action at Villanova Stadium. Villanova earns its fifth straight win and improves to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the Patriot League while Colgate falls to 2-8, 0-3. Trailing 6-3 at the end of the first half, as Villanova rattled off the game's first four goals in the opening 15 minutes, Colgate rallied back to tie the game at eight goals a piece as sophomore Jane Manning (Minnetonka, Minn./Blake School) tallied her second goal of the game off of a Lauren Moll (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) assist with 20:16 remaining. Manning finished the game with three goals and an assist for the Raiders, while Moll added two goals and an assist. The Raiders took the lead at 10-9 as freshman Rebecca Sandler (Baltimore, Md./Park School) found the back of the net on a free position shot with 9:58 left in the second half before the Wildcats responded with goals from Katie Komlo and Carolan in the final minutes of the game. Colgate's Jane Murray (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville), who made her 40th consecutive start for the Raiders, stopped five Villanova shots while Brandy Grenier turned back four Colgate attempts for the Wildcats.
