Raiders Fall To Eight-Ranked
Syracuse 16-8 SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Caitlin Houck (Boyertown, Pa./Lawrenceville School) netted three goals and added an assist and the Raiders' leading scorer, freshmen Rebecca Sandler (Baltimore, Md./Park School), chipped in with a goal and an assist, but it wasn't enough as the Raiders fell to eighth-ranked Syracuse squad 16-8 in women's lacrosse action, Wednesday at the Carrier Dome. Carrie Soults led the high-scoring Orange attack, tallying the first of her game-high four goals just 27 seconds into the first half as Syracuse outscored Colgate 11-3 in the first half. Kim Wayne, Erin MacDonald and Monica Jones each scored two goals a piece for Syracuse, while Kelsy Hill (Longwood, Fla./Lake Brantley), Kim Corcoran (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor), Caroline Wilde (Stewart Manor, N.Y./Sacred Heart) and Jane Manning (Minnetonka, Minn./Blake School) rounded out the Raiders' scoring with one goal each. Raider keeper Jane Murray made nine saves while her Syracuse counterpart Carla Gigon stopped eight Colgate shots. With the win Syracuse improves to 5-2 overall and 5-0 all-time against the Raiders, while Colgate drops to 2-7. Colgate returns to action Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m. against Patriot League rival Villanova.
